Transforming Gates and Byrnes Park Project Update

The Transforming Gates and Byrnes Park Project is showing lots of progress!  Click here for an updated presentation with photos of the ongoing construction, updated design images and a revised overall project budget estimate.

Woodruff  Construction has been making great progress at Gates Park, with construction continuing on the spray park restroom and pump house building and work beginning on amphitheater construction.  We hope to open the Spray Park and Inclusion Park early this summer, with work continues on other park features.

Peters Construction has been awarded the contract for Byrnes Aquatic Center, and they are well underway with Bath House renovations and site preparation work this fall and winter, while allowing the existing pool to reopen for an abbreviated 2024 summer season.  Demolition of the old pool and construction of the new aquatic features will be completed in time for the 2025 swim season.

The overall project budget is looking good with the project currently 98.4% funded as we continue seeking grants and grass roots fundraising. Thanks are due to the contractors for continuing to work with us to identify value engineering savings to keep the project within budget. Thanks also to Leisure Services staff and Public Works staff for the in-house work being done to help reduce the overall cost of this project.  We are very appreciative of the efforts of the City Finance, Planning, and Engineering staff to identify additional funding needed for the project. The Building Maintenance Department continues working to keep the old Byrnes Pool functioning as we prepare to replace it.  This is a GREAT team effort!

We will continue to update you as the project moves forward.
