Engineering

The City Engineering Department consists of a 20 member staff made up of five (5) Engineers, one (1) Storm Water Specialist, nine (9) Engineering Technicians, three (3) Draftspersons, one (1) Secretary and one (1) Clerk. It is the responsibility and the goal of the City Engineering Department to design and administer projects for new infrastructure and the repair and/or reconstruction of deteriorating infrastructure deemed necessary by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Waterloo, Iowa. This infrastructure may include, but is not limited to streets, bridges, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, sidewalks, parking lots, flood control structures, and multi-use trails.

The department maintains a Pavement Management System for the City's 431 miles of streets. The National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Storm Water Phase II Program is administered by the department. The department also reviews and approves subdivisions and commercial developments, provides engineering assistance for all other departments, and helps plan both short and long range public improvements.
