Small Businesses Encouraged to Bid on City Mowing and Snow Removal Contracts

The City of Waterloo Code Enforcement Department is looking for contractors for a two-year contract of mowing and snow removal starting this spring. The mowing portion of the contract runs approximately from April 15 through October 31 and snow removal from approximately November 1 through the following April 15, depending on the snow.

The contract is divided into four sections that are available to bid on individually or as a package. The bid packet for each section is due on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 1pm in the City of Waterloo Clerk’s Office at 715 Mulberry Street, Waterloo, Iowa 50703.

The information below summarizes each section and explains the types of equipment required.

Option A: VACANT LOTS
Approximately 75 vacant lots are mowed a maximum of five (5) times during the mowing season.

Option B: DILAPIDATED STRUCTURES
Approximately 60 dilapidated structures are mowed a maximum of five (5) times during the mowing season.

Option C: COMPLAINT MOWINGS
These are case by case properties that need mowing throughout the season. This also includes alley and sidewalk overgrowth trimming as well as small voluntary tree removal upon the request of the Code Officer.

Option D: COMPLAINT SNOW REMOVAL
This is also a case by case for properties that need snow removed off the city sidewalk.

Equipment you need to have available to use at any time to complete a job (not including equipment, you need to rent to finish).

-Walking lawn mowers

-Riding lawn mowers

-Truck and trailer for hauling brush

-Leaf blowers

-Weed wackers

-Chainsaws

-Large garden cutting shearers

-Snow shovels

-Ability to purchase salt prior to job (reimbursed)

-Snow blowers

-Ice chippers

-Camera with date & timestamp feature on photo

Requirements to apply include:
$1,500.00 bid security in the form of a check to be held until bids are opened.
Liability Insurance with City of Waterloo as additional insured on all insurance.
