2024 Veterans Way Banner Applications Now Open

WATERLOO, IA –Applications are now open for the 2024 Veterans Way Banner program. This initiative aims to honor and pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces and sacrificed so much for our nation. We encourage all eligible individuals to apply and participate in this meaningful project.

The Veterans Way Walk of Honor launched in 2023 with 42 banners adorning 16 blocks of the 4th Street corridor in downtown Waterloo from Washington St. to Adams St. Each banner features the name and photograph of an honored veteran, and additional bios can be found on an accompanying digital tour at WaterlooVeteransWay.com. Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart noted “The banners serve as a visual reminder of the dedication and valor of our local veterans fostering a strong sense of pride and gratitude among residents. As we reflect on the program's impact, we are not only celebrating the legacy of our veterans but also recognizing the unifying power of this initiative.”

A special recognition for this year’s honored Veterans and/or families is being planned by four area Exchange Clubs. Each Veteran and/or their family will be presented with a certificate at the One Nation Under God banquet to be held at the Elk’s Club in downtown Waterloo on Thursday, November 9.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 banners. The banners are $200 each and are on a first-come first-serve basis.

Exchange Club of Waterloo President Trent Hunter shared “The overwhelming response from our community, the heartwarming stories shared, and the visible appreciation shown by all who pass by these banners are a testament to the importance of honoring our veterans. Looking ahead, we are excited to expand the number of banners available to reach even more of our local heroes.”
