Snow Emergency

Waterloo is currently in a Winter Storm Warning effective at 2 PM, Monday January 25th through 6 AM on Tuesday, January 26th.   The National Weather Service out of Des Monies, Iowa is predicting very heavy snowfall rates of 2 inches per hour Monday afternoon and evening. Blowing and drifting snow and near blizzard conditions will be likely.  Travel Monday afternoon and evening will likely be extremely difficult if not impossible.

The City of Waterloo has declared a Snow Emergency as of 7:00 PM  MONDAY,  January 25th until 3:00 PM TUESDAY, January 26th.  Snow routes are in effect for this period of time.  Residents are encouraged to move cars off streets to allow snow removal crews to clear city streets.

Local Waterloo Updates and Reminders:
  • Citizens are reminded that trucks spread salt and sand.  Please maintain a safe distance (50 feet) back from snowplows.  Please be courteous and allow our crews to do their work safely. 
  • Citizens are asked to make sure garbage carts are not set on snowbanks or buried in snow. Please clear at least 3' around your cart to ensure a quick and safe pick up.
  • Waterloo Fire and Rescue remind residents with fire hydrants near their homes to clear the snow away 3 feet around the hydrant and a path from the hydrant to the street. 
  • The Cedar Valley Sportsplex will be CLOSING AT 7:00PM TODAY 1/25, and REOPENING TOMORROW MORNING 1/26 AT 8:00AM. Tuesday 1/26 ALL MORNING GROUP FITNESS CLASSES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED.
  • The Waterloo Public Library will start it's Library services at Noon on Tuesday, January 26th
