Waterloo Bridge Replacement Project

  • Effective immediately (2-28-22), the Park Avenue Bridge will be closed to allow for utility work related to the bridge replacement project. The bridge will remain closed until the work is completed.  Motorists and pedestrians are not to move the barricades and access the closed area.  
  • Effective on 4/11/2022 until summer of 2024,  there will be posted detour routes for trail, sidewalk, water trail, and vehicles for the Park Avenue bridge replacement project. Click here to view in more detail. 


  • Closure of the 11th Street Bridge is closed and is expected to reopen late fall of 2024.
Other areas in the city

  • On Thursday, July 25th, Fletcher Street from Campbell Ave. to HWY 63 asphalt overlay will begin.
    On Friday, July 26th, Westfield Ave from Ansborough Ave. to Black Hawk Creek asphalt overlay will begin.
  • On Wednesday, July 17, a private contractor will be closing Huntington Road between Luke Street and the Waterloo/Cedar Falls City limits to place a permanent road patch over the recently placed sanitary sewer crossing. The closure is anticipated to be in place for three days, weather permitting. Questions may be directed to the City of Cedar Falls/
  • The contractor has closed both Grandview Avenue and Brees Street at Broadway Street for work related to the Titus Pump Station Project. Please follow the signed detour. Closure is expected to be in place until approximately Friday, July 26, weather permitting.
  • On Tuesday, July 8, lane closures will begin on Ansborough Avenue between Upton Avenue and University Avenue to allow sewer maintenance staff to reconstruct storm sewer manholes. These closures will occur one block at a time in the center lanes and will occur over the next two weeks.
    Questions may be directed to the City of Waterloo Waste Management Services at 319-291-4553.
  • On Monday, July 8, pavement patching will begin in the 300 - 600 blocks of Williston Avenue. One block at a time will be closed between the hours of 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, allowing local traffic only, until complete. There will be no closures in the evening or overnight.
    Questions may be directed to the City of Waterloo Public Works Department at 319-291-4267.
  • Franklin Street Asphalt Overlay program will begin tentatively on May 28th and be from 7th to 11th street. 
  • Greenhill road from Maynard Ave to Katoski Drive will be under construction for the asphalt overlay program. 
  • The Heartland Hills Area Water Main Replacement project is scheduled to begin Monday, April 1. This includes all of Heartland Hills Drive, Jodi Drive, Mark Drive, Jill Drive, Matthew Drive, and part of Aspen Drive. It is anticipated that this project will take 2-3 months but has a completion date of September 30, 2024. Updates will be sent out for actual road closures.
  • On Monday, June 11, both eastbound and westbound lanes of Broadway Street will be closed. Eastbound lanes are expected to open to traffic during the week of June 17, weather permitting. Please follow signed detour. 
  • The Kingley Avenue Reconstruction Project is tentatively scheduled to start Monday, April 8th. Construction will be from Euclid Street to Moir Street.
  • W. 11th Street is closed from Hwy 218 (Washington St.) to Jefferson Street to allow for repairs of the 11th Street Railroad Crossing. Closure is expected to be in place until approximately Friday, July 12. A signed detour is in place.
